Terms of Service
Last updated: 27 April 2026
These terms set out how you can use FortuneSage and what you can expect from us. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service — and let us know what put you off, we'd genuinely like to know.
1. About FortuneSage
FortuneSage is a personal finance management app. We help you see financial information from multiple bank accounts in one place, set budgets, track spending, scan receipts, and receive AI-generated insights about your money habits.
What FortuneSage is not:
- We are not a bank. We do not hold or move your money.
- We are not a financial adviser. The insights we generate are observations about your data, not regulated financial advice.
- We do not initiate payments, transfers, or any transactions on your behalf.
FortuneSage operates as an Account Information Service under the Open Banking permissions of TrueLayer Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
2. Your account
To use FortuneSage, you need to create an account with a valid email address. You must be at least 18 years old. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. If you suspect your account has been compromised, please email security@fortunesage.app immediately.
You're responsible for the accuracy of any data you enter manually. While we apply reasonable controls to data we receive from your bank via TrueLayer, we don't verify that data independently and we're not liable for inaccuracies originating from the bank.
3. Connecting your bank accounts
When you connect a bank account through FortuneSage, you're granting consent for TrueLayer to access transaction and balance information from that bank on your behalf. This is a regulated process under UK Open Banking rules:
- You authenticate directly with your bank — we never see your bank credentials
- Consent must be renewed every 90 days (a regulatory requirement, not our choice)
- You can revoke access at any time, either through the FortuneSage app, through your bank, or through TrueLayer
- The connection is read-only — no money can move through it
4. The role of TrueLayer
TrueLayer is our regulated Open Banking provider. They are responsible for the secure technical connection between FortuneSage and your banks, in compliance with FCA regulations. They are not responsible for:
- Decisions you make about your money based on what you see in FortuneSage
- The financial guidance, AI insights, or any content within the FortuneSage app
- The accuracy or completeness of categorisations, budgets, or forecasts shown in FortuneSage
- Any losses, costs, or consequences resulting from your use of FortuneSage
TrueLayer's relationship is with FortuneSage and with you as a regulated AISP user. Their own terms apply to that regulated relationship and are available at truelayer.com/legal/end-user-terms.
5. Your responsibility for financial decisions
FortuneSage is a tool to help you understand and reflect on your money. The decisions you make about your finances — what to spend, what to save, what to invest, what to cancel, what to budget — are yours alone.
We try hard to make our insights and categorisations accurate, but they can be wrong. Bank data feeds occasionally miss transactions or report incorrect amounts. AI models occasionally misinterpret patterns. Categorisation is sometimes ambiguous. You should treat FortuneSage as one input among many when making financial decisions, not as the single source of truth — and certainly not as a substitute for professional advice on significant financial matters.
6. AI insights — important context
Our AI features generate observations about your spending patterns using third-party AI models (currently Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google depending on the feature). The output:
- Is generated from a summary of your data, not your raw account information
- Can occasionally be inaccurate, biased, or misleading — this is a known characteristic of current AI systems
- Should be read as a starting point for your own thinking, not as authoritative guidance
- Is not regulated financial advice and should not be treated as such
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use FortuneSage for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to access another user's account or data
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app
- Interfere with the security or operation of FortuneSage
- Use the app to violate the terms of service of any connected bank or financial institution
- Use automated systems to access FortuneSage without our written permission
8. Subscription and payments
FortuneSage offers a free tier and paid subscriptions. Pricing, features, and trial periods are shown clearly in the app before you purchase. Subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) and are subject to their respective terms.
You can cancel your subscription at any time through your App Store or Play Store settings. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their refund policies — we're not able to issue refunds directly for store-purchased subscriptions.
9. Closing your account
You can close your FortuneSage account at any time from within the app. When you do:
- Your bank connections are revoked immediately
- Your personal data is permanently removed within 30 days (subject to any legal record-keeping requirements)
- Active paid subscriptions need to be cancelled separately through your App Store or Play Store account
We may also suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, if we're required to by law, or if we have reasonable grounds to suspect fraud or misuse. We'll usually give you notice and a chance to address the issue first, except in serious cases.
10. Service availability
We aim to keep FortuneSage available and reliable, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted service. The app may occasionally be unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, or factors outside our control (such as your bank's systems being down or TrueLayer experiencing issues). Where we know about planned maintenance, we notify users in advance.
11. Our liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, FortuneSage is not liable for:
- Financial decisions you make based on information shown in the app
- Inaccuracies in transaction data received from your banks
- Errors in AI-generated insights or categorisations
- Loss of data due to factors outside our reasonable control
- Indirect, consequential, or special losses (such as lost profits, missed opportunities, or business losses)
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation.
For UK consumer users, these terms do not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable consumer protection law.
[Note for the developer: the specific liability cap and jurisdiction clauses below are commonly reviewed by a solicitor before launch. Remove this italic note before publishing.]
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app at least 14 days before they take effect, and update the “Last updated” date above. If you don't agree to the changes, you can close your account before they take effect.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except that nothing prevents you from pursuing rights you may have in your country of residence as a consumer.
